Last month, in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing, we wrote about Comfort Dogs – Golden Retrievers trained to interact with people and promote healing after tragic events. Well, they are hard at work today as they are deployed to Oklahoma City to aid victims of the terrible tornado there this week.

The dogs arrived on Tuesday and have been visiting shelters and meeting victims.

How you can help: Donate to the LCC Comfort Dog Fund, which supports the program by providing care, transportation, and training for the dogs.

An adorable, adoptable dog – Meet Dalia

May 22, 2013 in Adoptable Pet of the Week

dDahlia450799Delightful Dalia here, I’m an 8-year-old Labrador retriever who is just darling. I’m house-trained, well-mannered and like just about everyone including most other cats and dogs. I would enjoy being part of a family where there is someone home to love on me or just hang out with. If you want a four-legged companion, I’m your gal. Please visit me at the Buddy Center at 4556 Castleton Court, Castle Rock. My ID# is A450799. To see my other furry friends available for adoption, please visit ddfl.org.

Actress’s dog, held for ransom, is returned

May 21, 2013 in Celebrity Pets

Phew! “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” actress, Tricia O’Kelley, had a scare! Her 11-year-old Yorkie, Walter, was dognapped by someone who was asking for a $1000 reward!

The drama unfolded when Walter went missing two days ago. O’Kelley pleaded for his safe return after getting a cellphone call from a blocked number later that day. The man on the end of the line demanded $1000 and instructed her to post signs with the reward information on them. Then he would arrange to meet her for the exchange.

Apparently the dognappers got scared when the police got involved, and dropped him off in the vicinity where a neighbor picked him up. It was a joyous reunion for the family when Walter was welcomed home. O’Kelley shared the news on Twitter.
